Law and Promise

Scouting and Guiding in Switzerland is based on the Scout and Guide Law and Promise, which are adapted from the international versions according to Swiss Scout and Guide culture and traditions. While Beavers do not have a promise, Cub Scouts and Brownies have a simplified version.

Beavers do not have any special Law or Promise.

Cub Scouts and Brownies

Cub Promise by hajk

Wolves live in a pack. This is possible because they follow the same rules. The law rules their hunts, expressions and life and is very important for the pack. The Law and Promise are very similar to the first Cub Scout Law and Cub Scout Promise, after adaptations to fit the Swiss culture.

The motto

Do my best!

The Cub Scout and Brownie Law

We Cub Scouts and Brownies want to look after each other, help each other and learn from each other, take care of nature and our environment, and discover new things with our eyes, ears, nose, mouth and hands.

The Cub Scout and Brownie Promise

I want to participate with the Cub Scouts and Brownies, and I try to do my best to follow the Cub Scout and Brownie law.

Scouts and Guides

Promises based on hajk

Since Lord Baden-Powell initiated the Scout Movement more than a hundred years ago, the Scout Law is the very main pillar of Scouting and Guiding. It is the main link between all Scouts and Guides worldwide, together with the Promise. Our Scout and Guide Law is based on Lord Baden-Powell’s first Scout Law and has been revised a couple of times. Every Scout and Guide in the world knows the same Law, arranged to fit to their culture. The Law is thus the same for all sections except the Cub Scouts and Brownies, which have a simpler version adapted to their age.

The motto

Be prepared!

The Law

We as Scouts and Guides want ...

... to be open and honest

... to seek joy and give joy to others

... to offer our help

... to make decisions and take responsibility

... to understand others and respect them

... to share with each other

... to take care of nature and all that lives

... to face difficulties with confidence

The promise

I promise to do my best

... to continue contemplating the Scout and Guide law

... to search for the meaning and the goal of my life

... to contribute to any community I live in

Together with all of you (voluntary: and with God), I will try to live according to this promise.
